#3 Tonic Strategy - Consistency: Tonic use is about promoting optimal health through deep, nutritive support over time. Take one serving 2-4 times a day for as long as needed or as practitioner recommended. Tonics are safe to take long term but appropriate length is unique to each individual and their health goals.
Initially take the suggested amount in a small amount of water, juice or tea to taste. With familiarity, can be taken directly for convenience.

Herbs in Action
- Vitex berry: Vitex agnus-castus, also known as Chaste berry, is a plant that has been used for wellness purposes for thousands of years. Vitex supports hormonal balance and has an affinity for the female reproductive system. This herb encourages healthy menstrual cycles and supports progesterone balance. Vitex also helps soothe occasional cycle-related discomforts and supports emotional balance during monthly cycles.
- Wild Yam Root: Dioscorea villosa has been used in folk medicine since the 18th century to treat menstrual cramps and various discomforts. The root is most popular for its affinity for the female system, where it influences hormone balances to benefit discomforts associated with menstruation. Wild Yam may influence our hormonal system by supporting the reproductive/endocrine system through healthy inflammatory response and hormone pathways. It may ease menstrual cramps and aid with vaginal dryness in older women.
- Black Cohosh root: Actaea racemosa is most often used to ease cramps and menopausal discomforts such as night sweats, hot flashes, irritability, and sleep disturbances.
- Lemon Balm leaf: The cooling nature of Melissa officinalis is particularly helpful for women during menopause where sleep can be interrupted by hot flashes (or hot flushes) or the feeling of running too hot.
- Schisandra berry: Schisandra chinensis is a traditional Chinese longevity berry that supports the production of "feel good" hormones. Schisandra is used as an "adaptogen" and supports energy and physical performance and endurance.
- Raspberry leaf: The most notable contribution of Rubus idaeus is their nourishing properties. Raspberry leaf provides vitamin C and B, along with a number of minerals, including iron, phosphorus, zinc, magnesium and potassium.
- Holy Basil aerials: Also known as Tulsi or Tulasi, this aromatic perennial plant in the family Lamiaceae (mint) is native to Southeast Asia. From the seed to the leaves, Ocimum spp. is considered a tonic for the spirit, mind and body, and can help support healthy inflammatory balance, stress and occasional anxiousness.
- Burdock root: Arctium lappa is a powerhouse of nutrients that acts as a free radical scavenger, helping to support the body's natural balance and homeostasis. Burdock may help support the body's natural cleansing processes and waste elimination. It supports hormonal balance throughout natural cycles, making it valuable herbal support during times of hormonal transition such as menopause.

Why is it better to sleep on my back after surgery?
Doctors recommend sleeping on your back post-mastectomy - and many other surgeries! - to manage surgical drains and dressings. Sleeping on your back helps you to heal optimally and protects incisions from excess pressure.
How can I stay on my back if I'm naturally a side sleeper?
Providing support on both sides of your body is the key to staying on your back while sleeping. The two contoured side pillows in the Sleep Again Pillow System are designed to do just that - provide support to keep you snugly in place.
Why does my upper body have to stay elevated after surgery?
Doctors recommend that you sleep with your upper body elevated after surgery to reduce swelling and bruising. It also improves circulation and reduces fluid build up. In addition, elevating your upper body makes getting out of bed easier.
Why does a wedge under my knees help after surgery?
Elevating your legs after surgery helps prevent swelling. A wedge pillow under your knees can also help with proper alignment in your back.
What arm limitations are recommended after a double mastectomy?
Following a double mastectomy, doctors recommend that you do not raise your arms above your shoulders. This is to protect incisions and sutures as well as keep drains in place.
